Earthquakes experiment

We have been learning the cause and effect of an earthquake. We were scientists today! We gathered evidence, predicted what might happen and observed.

Check out our "earthquake proof" buildings. Can you predict which one didn't fall over?

We also learnt about something called liquefaction. It is when a firm ground turns into liquid. Wet sediment gets covered by heaps more sediment making the ground firm. When an earthquake happens, it puts pressure on the sediment and makes the ground soft. Jaxon made a great prediction - he thought water will come up once we start shaking it.

  11. Wow what an interesting experiment. It seems that you are learning a lot about earthquakes. Fantastic prediction Jaxon. Were you correct? Did water come up through the sand? Keep being curious. Keep asking questions. Make the most of opportunities to be innovative and creative. What a great learning environment. How could you use what you learn to contribute to your community?
