W7, T1: Collaboration

Can you taste the mint? Thank you Donovan Primary for the mints!
This week, we continue with problem solving. One way to solve a problem is to work with someone else. We learnt that collaboration was when you get one idea and mash it with another idea  - to create a mega idea that can solve a problem. We don't all think the same and sometimes we need to hear other people's ideas.

Some of us are still learning about how to listen to other people's ideas and "mash" it with our ideas.

This week we received our parcel from our buddy school from Invercargill - Donovan Primary School.

We received their poster and tried out their challenge - swallowing a mint. Can we still taste it if we hold our noses?

We practised some collaboration and tried to put their postcards together to make a poster.

Learning to share our ideas. How are we going to put this together?

W6, T1: Problem Solving

We are looking at looking at solving problems this week.

Before we solve a problem we need to take risk and go into the learning pit. We need to take a risk and face challenges.

To be able to solve a problem sometimes we have to collaborate. Collaboration is about combining many ideas together to make a mega idea.

We used the Figure it out book: At camp to try and work out how to raise money for a camp trip. We then use different problem solving strategies to work out how we are going to get a cabbage, a goat, and a wolf across the river.

Some strategies we learnt was to plan our strategies and highlight the important information. Some us acted the problem, some of us made a list and drew a picture, some of us guessed and checked our answer, some of us went backwards and tried to find the pattern.

Can you see us collaborate and use some problem solving strategies?

What do you want to change about your class/school?

Mrs. Goundar asked us to fill out a survey.  The survey asked what we would like to see changed in our school or class.

Read our interesting ideas:
"Kids can have a say on what happens at lunchtimes" - Brooke

"Students will be given a sense of responsibility and would be doing more of what they love...." - Grace

".....more kids that are proud of themselves..." - Ashton

"...more chances for kids to get sports equipment..." - Liam

"...if we stick to to the topics now.....we would not be prepared" - Luka

".....more sports team...." - Kane

"....change the furniture" - Bhaviik.

"...more chapter books" - Arnav

"....change the amount of collaboration" - Kaleb.

What would you change?
